A family enterprise, owned and managed by a dedicated family!
Gateway School of English (Licence no. 241/MB 08), fully licensed by the Ministry of Education and fully compliant with the regulations of the Ministry’s ELT English Language Teaching Council (the recognised authority regulating the English language teaching industry in Malta), and the Gateway School Residence are owned and managed by Netz Educational Services Ltd., a company registered (Registration no. C26605) under Maltese law on the 27th of June, 2000.
The founders of the company are Mrs. Marisa Sammut and Mr. Charles Sammut. The family work hands-on at the School and the Residence. They bring to their work the attention to detail and the dedication typical of the best traditions of European Mittelstand enterprise, to borrow the German term.
The company owns the School and its adjacent residential complex. In the best traditions of European Mittelstand, we prefer to own all our assets. The buildings are constructed on our own land and are wholly owned by us.
The family supervised the whole construction process from design and the laying of foundations to decoration, the acquisition of furniture, the recruitment of teachers, the development of courses and marketing. Today, they manage the day-to-day operations themselves. They dedicate themselves 24/7 to the School, the whole year round.
The Director of Studies, Mr. Roman Azzopardi, together with the assistant Director of Studies, Ms Michaela Micallef, co-ordinates his work closely with the family, thus ensuring the highest standards of pedagogic professionalism with first-hand attention by the owners and the dedication typical of a family enterprise.

Our Main Course aims to improve general English. It consists of 20 lessons each week. This is equivalent to 16 hours and 40 minutes. Our Main Course aims to improve general English. It consists of 20 lessons each week. This is equivalent to 16 hours and 40 minutes. It is intended for students of all nationalities and levels who need to improve their language for work or study. The courses are at levels from Beginner ( A0) to Advanced (C1).
This course can provide a quick boost to the student’s language over a short period, or it can be joined for a longer period to provide a long-term change in proficiency or as preparation for an academic preparation course such as IELTS.
Minimum Age: 16 years
Maximum class size: 14 students
Students are required to hire or purchase the course book. The fee for this is 30 GBP per book.
If the book is hired, 25 GBP is returned to the student on return of the book.
We normally use one course book for each 6-8 weeks.
A registration fee of 75 GBP will be added to the invoice.

Gateway School of English offers a wide range of exam preparation courses, the most popular of which are the IELTS, TOEFL iBT, TOEIC and the Cambridge FCE & CAE courses. GSE offers three types of exam preparation courses depending on the number of lessons you wish to take:
Exam Preparation Group courses 20 lessons per week
Exam Preparation Group courses 30 lessons per week
Combination Group General English 20 lessons per week + One-to-One Exam Preparation (private tuition) 10 lessons per week
The combination course of General English + One-to-One exam preparation course is ideal for those students wishing to improve their General English skills (listening, speaking, reading & writing) as well as language systems such as pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar while preparing for their exam, especially if the students are of lower levels.
For exam preparation group courses the maximum size per group is 8 students per class. The duration of each lesson is 45 minutes.
If the student wishes to sit for the exam at the end of the course in Malta our academic staff will assist with the registration process and will help the student fill out the application form. If the student has already decided on the exam date prior to arrival in Malta and is planning to sit for the exam after finishing the course, our staff would need the exam application form upon booking so that we can submit the application form to the exam centre. Our staff will guide the student and assist through the application procedure and will provide all the necessary information by e-mail.
